At some point I want to out a little blurb about each of my classmates on here and give a little bit of their story.
Mike Laffan is a nice lad from Limerick, Ireland by way of Glasgow and North Carolina. He sounds like a Newfie so I liked him instantly. Mike was a music major over in Ireland (like nearly everyone else in class he can play way better than me the bastard) and spent a bit of time teaching music and gigging around, and at some point took a bank job to earn a little real dough and buy a flat. I don’t have all the chronology right but Mike was introduced to American musician Rhiannon Giddens by a friend in France, they had a whirlwind internet romance and got married just this past summer. I’ve had a word with Mike about the timing of getting married and then going to university a few weeks later. I’ll have to live vicariously through someone else I guess. Rhiannon is now on tour most of the time with her really cool band the Carolina Chocolate Drops while Mike is here studying in Canada. Godspeed Skype.
True to his Irish ancestry, Mike is fantastic at drinking and swearing - he wields the C word like a dangerous weapon. If he is having troubling understanding anything you say, just suffix it with ‘to be sure’ and everything will be fine.
